About

Hallie Ballou is an Americana singer-songwriter whose music is rooted in honest storytelling, emotional resilience, and the kind of truth that lingers long after the song ends. Raised in a small fishing village at the end of the road in Alaska, Hallie grew up surrounded by music, learning early that songs have the power to preserve memories, heal wounds, and connect people across generations.

Mentored in songwriting by Atz Kilcher, Hallie developed a deep respect for storytelling through music long before stepping onto stages of her own. After spending years focused on raising her children and building a life outside of the spotlight, she returned to songwriting with a renewed sense of purpose — inspired in part by her children asking why they had never seen their mom perform the songs she had always written behind closed doors.

Blending elements of Americana, folk, and country, Hallie’s music pairs nostalgic imagery and warm melodies with deeply personal lyricism. Her songs explore love, loss, longing, motherhood, healing, and the quiet courage it takes to begin again. Whether writing about heartbreak, hope, or the feeling of driving toward something unknown, she approaches every song with one goal: tell the truth.

In addition to her work as an artist, Hallie serves as the Songwriting Program Director at Idyllwild Arts Academy, where she mentors the next generation of young songwriters and performers. Her teaching philosophy centers around authenticity, emotional connection, and helping students find their own voice through songwriting.

Now based in Southern California, Hallie continues to write and release music that feels timeless, intimate, and deeply human — songs for late-night drives, second chances, and anyone still finding their way home.
